The Leonard and Doris Clarke Memorial Fund

The Leonard and Doris Clarke Memorial Fund encourages the educational achievements, community service and sport participation of youth from Bell Island.  Established from a gift in the estate of Leonard and Doris Clarke, the fund will annually distribute $5,000 in scholarships and awards for 20 years to graduates from St. Michael’s Regional High School as selected by its scholarships and awards committee. The fund also supports the Town of Wabana’s children and youth programming and sports field maintenance.

Leonard and Doris Clarke moved to Bell Island shortly after they married and started Clarke and Clarke Ltd. This included opening a Home Hardware franchise in 1971, which is still in operation today.  Leonard and Doris were generous and kind individuals and community leaders who believed in the power of education to provide young people with opportunities and the benefits of participating in sports.  They supported and mentored many young people throughout their lives and wanted to continue that as part of their legacy.
