Kindness is Contagious

In Newfoundland and Labrador, giving back is part of who we are.

People here have always looked out for each other, showing up for neighbours, caring for family, and holding communities together in ways that often go unnoticed.

Best Kind Giving is about recognizing those people and using their stories to inspire more of us to give back. Because kindness is contagious. The more we see it, the more we do it. That's how this grows.

A new initiative from the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Northpine Foundation, with media partner Sheerr Weather.

What is Best Kind Giving?

The people at the heart of our communities don't always have the support they deserve. Best Kind Giving is here to change that.

Working with trusted organizations across Newfoundland and Labrador, CFNL and the Northpine Foundation identify people whose kindness makes a real difference in their communities, and who could benefit from some support of their own. Every situation is different, and every response is personal.

When a story is supported, we also recognize and raise funds for the organizations and communities behind the giving, strengthening what happens every day across the province.

Each story shared makes kindness more visible. And the more visible it is, the more people feel moved to take part.

How it works

SUBMIT A NOMINATION

Tell us about someone in your community who shows kindness and could use some support. Nominations come from individuals or community organizations, and each one includes backing from a trusted organization, so the situation is understood with care and context.

WE REVIEW AND CONNECT

CFNL and the Northpine Foundation review every nomination thoughtfully. While we can't help everyone, we consider each person's needs, their role in their community, and our commitment to reaching communities across the province.

SUPPORT IS PROVIDED

We work with the nominating organization to understand the situation and shape a response that's meaningful for the person and their circumstances.

STORIES ARE SHARED

Most stories are shared publicly with our media partner, Sheerr Weather. They reflect the many ways people look out for each other while inspiring others to do the same.

Who can nominate?

Nominations can come from individuals or trusted community organizations. All nominations must include support from a trusted organization to ensure each situation is understood with care and grounded in the right community context.

Organizations can include:
Registered Charities
Incorporated Nonprofits
Municipalities
Indigenous Governments
Schools

If you are submitting as an individual, we ask that you connect with a community organization that can support the nomination and provide a letter confirming their involvement.

Know someone we should hear about?

We are looking for people who are:
  • showing kindness in their community
  • helping others in real and practical ways
  • making a difference, often without recognition
  • facing challenges where some support could go a long way.
NOMINATE SOMEONE

If someone comes to mind, reach out to a trusted organization in your community to submit a nomination or help support one. When a story is supported, we also recognize and raise funds for the nominating organization, helping strengthen the communities that make this all possible.
