William D. (Bill) Mahoney, OMM, ONL, CD
Bill Mahoney is a lifelong resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. He is a pioneer in the communications industry of Newfoundland and Labrador and currently operates a group of businesses in the province related to the real estate and hospitality sectors. He has also served, with distinction, as a Royal Canadian Air Force Reservist for more than 27 years.
He has shown his commitment to philanthropy through service on such boards as the John Howard Society, the Rotary Club of St. John’s and the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador (CFNL).
Mr. Mahoney has served as Chair of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society, the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, the Canadian Forces Liaison Council, the St. John’s Downtown Development Commission and the St. John’s International Airport Authority.
He is currently National Chair of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association and National Vice Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council. He is also director of many boards including the Rooms Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
He is a private pilot and using his own aircraft, has used his aviation skills in the service of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association for more than 30 years, assisting in aerial searches when called upon by national and provincial search and rescue authorities.
He has received recognition at many levels for his military and community service. He is an Officer in the Order of Military Merit and a Member of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. He has also received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
Mr. Mahoney has been inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame and is also a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame.
